Overview

Interleukin-8 (IL-8), a member if the neutrophil-specific CXC subfamily of chemokines, is a potent neutrophil chemotactic and activating factor.1 It is a primary inflammatory cytokine produced by many cells (including monocytes/macrophages, T cells, neutrophils, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, keratinocytes, hepatocytes, astrocytes, and chondrocytes) in response to proinflammatory stimuli such as bacteria and viruses. IL-8 serves to attract neutrophils to the site of inflammation and to activate them.

Results of this test are for research purposes only by the assay's manufacturer. The performance characteristics of this assay have not been established. Results should not be used as a diagnostic procedure without confirmation of the diagnosis by another medically established diagnostic product or procedure.
