Overview:
Celiac disease, also known as gluten-sensitive enteropathy, or idiopathic sprue, is a hereditary response to gliadin, a protein present in wheat, rye, and barley grain. The immune reaction to the gluten protein sets off an inflammatory state that may cause diarrhea, abdominal cramping, flatulence, weight loss, fatigue, malaise, and other symptoms. Through proper screening and adherence to a gluten-free diet, affected individuals can find relief to these symptoms. Our Celiac Antibody Panel is a semi-quantitative analysis that measures for serum tissue transglutaminase (tTG) IgA & IgG, in addition to IgA and IgG antibodies specific for deamidated gliadin peptide (DGP). These useful markers can help healthcare providers to identify untreated celiac disease or monitor compliance to a gluten-free diet.
